Appalachian’s Response to the ARRA 2009

About the ARRA

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), passed by Congress on 13 February 2009 and signed into law by President Barack Obama on 17 February has significant implications for the State of North Carolina, the University of North Carolina system and Appalachian State University.  Included in ARRA 2009 are direct allocations to the states, and new federal funding for higher education, research, workforce training, and infrastructure.

The ARRA 2009 provides significant opportunities that align well with both Appalachian’s Strategic Plan and UNC Tomorrow. Of particular importance are teaching, research, and outreach activities that engage the campus with the community and the region—activities that have a significant, measurable impact on economic transformation.
